- Vammala
There are many recreation and hiking areas for interests all the year round in
Vammala. Every tenth square kilometre is water; lakes and rivers. The center of the city
is by the river Kokemäenjoki. You can take a room at a congress hotel or perhaps sleep in
a tent. You can consume restaurant portions or traditional farmhouse food. There are
people in Vammala who know traditional handicraft and technology. As a town of seven
churches we can present you extraordinary churches and some other sights. Vammala, the
town of books, is also known as a home town for national artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela and
internationally famous illustrator and writer Mauri Kunnas. Vammala is a pleasant town
with about 15.000 inhabitants in southwestern Finland. It is situated in an area of great
natural beauty with about 100 lakes. Vammala is also the active centre of a district with
almost 30,000 inhabitants.
- Vantaa
The City of Vantaa is internationally well known as the Airport City in the
Helsinki metropolitan region, with several high tech centres and excellent services for
business life and business tourists. Tourism in Vantaa is concentrated on business and
gateway tourism combined with cultural and nature tour objects. The touristic objects of
Vantaa are located at the historic Kuninkaantie (Kings road) near Kehä III/E 18 and the
rivers Vantaanjoki and Keravanjoki.
- Vehkalahti
In Hamina, a traveller can meet vivid history and culture. The 350-year-old town
with the circular town plan has retained its appearance which breathes past times. The old
star-shaped fortress surrounds the town centre and offers a unique setting for various
kinds of summer events. The circular streets are lined by old wooden buildings, churches
representing various architectural styles, houses of former influential merchant families
as well as a wide park area which constitutes part of the fortress. The sea, countryside
and the unique archipelago with its old fishermen´s villages are characteristic of
Hamina. There are almost 400 islands, some of which belong to the Eastern Gulf of Finland
National Park. The archipelago offers much to see and experience, camping sites with
services, and an abundant range of bird species and flora.
- Vehmersalmi
The waterways and lakes are an essential element of the landscape. White sided
boats sail from Kuopio to Savonlinna via Vehmersalmi and on to the Gulf of Finland. One
third of the population lives in Soisalo ,the largest island in Finland. Lake Suvasvesi has the clearest waters among the large lakes in the province.
There are over 8,000ha of water favoured by trout and salmon providing excellent
opportunities for recreational fishing.
- Velkua
Velkua is a small municipality in the Turku archipelago, on the southwestern
coast of Finland. There are about 250 inhabitants and 300 islands in the area. Velkua,
located in the popular Archipelago Ring Route, can be reached easily in numerous ways. The
distance from Turku is roughly 45 kilometres. The unique nature of the archipelago is not
the only fascinating thing to see in Velkua. The short distances make it simple and easy
to visit different sights.
- Vesilahti
Founded in 1869, the municipality of Vesilahti is situated in the region of
Pirkanmaa in the Province of West Finland. It belongs to the economic region of Tampere,
one of the largest cities in Finland. Bordering on the municipalities of Lempäälä,
Pirkkala, Nokia, Vammala, Urjala, Kylmäkoski and Viiala, Vesilahti is situated 30
kilometres from Tampere and Nokia, 160 kilometres from Helsinki, and 130 kilometres from
Turku. Of Vesilahtis's total area of 354 square kilometres, 61 per cent is forested and 21
per cent is agricultural land. Lakes cover 52 square kilometres of the total area. In
addition to the moraine land typical of the forest areas, the soil in Vesilahti is clay
mixed with sand. The clayey lowlands on the banks of the large lakes have offered ideal
conditions for agriculture since early times. Lake Pyhäjärvi, the central lake in the
water system of Kokemäenjoki, surrounds the entire north-eastern part of Vesilahti, and
the inland parts are dotted with forest lakes, such as Lake Suonojärvi and Lake
Arajärvi.
- Vihanti
On the shore of Kirkkojärvi (Church Lake) there is an impressive complex including a
museum, a bathing beach, a library and a cafe. The museum is open at the same time as the
library: Mon - Fri from 12 to 7 p.m. You can also find hotel accomodation in the

- Viitasaari

- Vimpeli
The municipality of Vimpeli was founded in 1866 and it is the 28th oldest
municipality in Finland. There are 3500 inhabitants in Vimpeli and it is situated in
Ostrobothnia (Etelä-Pohjanmaa) on the eastern coast of Lake Lappajärvi. The lake was
shaped 77 million years ago when a meteorite hit the ground.
- Virolahti
Virolahti is the most southeastern municipality in Finland. The best known place
in Virolahti is the Customs in Vaalimaa where 1,3 million people cross the border
annually. So the best connection from Helsinki to St. Petersburg goes via Vaalimaa. These
days Vaalimaa is the fastest developing area in Virolahti. The tourist center in Vaalimaa
is called Rajahovi, where you can eat, exchange currency, receive tourist information and
do your shopping. The newest shoppingcenter in Vaalimaa is called Eastgate. In addition to
nine specialized shops there are catering and accomodation services in Eastgate. Virojoki
is the largest population center of Virolahti. You can find many basic services there:
hotel, restaurant, banks, service station, post office, pharmacy, health center, grocery
stores and several specialized shops. The municipal office, schools, library and many
facilities for spare time activities are also located in Virojoki. Tourists interested in
nature should visit the manorhouse of Harju in Ravijoki, which is also a school for
agriculture and horticulture. Besides facilities for accomodation there are places for
bird watching in the parrish village of Virolahti. Butterflies unique in the Finnish
conditions have also been found in the area.
- Värtsilä
Värtsilä has a unique nature with plants and animals which are rarely found in
Finland. Sääperi is a well-known bird lake with many rare bird species such as the
yellow-breasted bunting and the corncrake. The valley of Värtsilä is dominated by
Jänisjoki river, which flows through lakes Pieni and Iso Jänisjärvi into lake Ladoga.
- Vöyri
Vörå, the realm of rye is a district rich in cultural tradition, with inland as
well as seashore, high hills and wide plains. The plain of Vörå is a gift from the sea,
by the time of the birth of Christ the waves were surging free on vast parts of the
province. In the 1800th century the Vörå area was called the Realm of the rye thanks to
the capable farmers, the suitable weather and the fertile earth. The community of Vörå
was founded in 1868, the county is mentioned in writing already in 1443 and the Swedish
name Vörå in 1367.
- Ylistaro
You can come here to stay on the farms (which is a new travel industry in
Ylistaro) and see the sights, such as the Stately Church and the smaller Kitinoja village
church (built and maintained by the villagers themselves). We also have a horse sports
centre in Mäki-Pohto area. In addition, the woods and the river offer innumerable
possibilities for recreation, and we are in the process of building a new sports hall for
everyone to engage in different activities. The annual Joutopäivämarkkinat Fair in July
gives you a wonderful opportunity to meet local people and make new friends. The village
centre is turned into a colourful mass of vendors´ tents and smiling crowds of people all
friendly towards one another. The whole week is full of different events both sporty and
cultural, and the hospitality of the people is something you really have to experience
yourself.
- Yläne
If you are looking for a holiday in the country, look no further than Yläne. The
Yläne week is held every year, in 2003 it will be from June 23rd to 29th, for the
enjoyment of art, music, theatre, sport and good company. The "Made by the hands of
Yläne" exhibition starts at the same time. The Kuhankuono Nature Trails are a
system of forest paths, planked walkways, primeval forest, protected marshes and rest
stops with lean-tos - just 35 km from Turku. You can walk the Trails on your own or in
groups. Tour operators are definitely worth checking out: they can arrange guided
backpacking trips, canoeing, bicycling, smoke saunas, lodgings and high grade food
services, from campfire-brewed coffee to a fantastic forest dinner. More information about

A nature and cultural centre Yläneen
Luontokapinetti Oy was completed in Spring 2002. The centre houses an extensive nature
exhibition, and visitors can also take a geological trip in time.
- Ähtäri
Ähtäri is beautifully located right in the middle of Finland, with excellent
facilities and services near at hand. Ähtäri offers visitors unspoilt natural
surroundings, clear-watered lakes, verdant forests, plenty of snow in winter. Ähtäri,
where basic services are well looked after, has developed a rich and versatile

- Äänekoski
- Äänekoski, which has 14 000 inhabitants, is a regional
growth centre for industry, education and commerce in the northern part of central
Finland. Close to the town's large-scale, high technology industries is unspoiled lake
scenery.
